2. Russell Wilson vs. Atlanta Falcons
It was a real struggle for the Atlanta Falcons to find success on defense last season. That is likely going to continue to be the case for them since they did not manage to completely overhaul the unit. An MVP caliber player like Russell Wilson will be able to take full advantage.
Not having effective edge defenders and corners is a bad combination for a defense. Especially when going up against a quarterback that likes to operate outside of the pocket to extend plays and can make tough throws. Atlanta doesn’t have the linebacker or safety talent to make up for it either.
It’s important to note, Wilson did have massive numbers against the Falcons in his performance against them in 2019. He completed 14-of-20 (70%) pass attempts for 182 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Part of the issue for Wilson was that Tyler Lockett was the only receiver who managed to make a consistent impact in that game. The running game also accounted for 33 carries, 151 yards, and a touchdown, so there wasn’t a major need for big passing production.
Don’t expect Wilson to put up pedestrian numbers with another chance to go at the Falcons. He has a more experienced DK Metcalf and now Greg Olsen and Phillip Dorsett are in the mix. Wilson could end up surpassing 325 yards with 3 or 4 touchdowns and it wouldn’t be a surprise.
