5 NFL teams who should still pursue a Yannick Ngakoue trade

Arizona Cardinals

Cardinals Receive: Yannick Ngakoue
Jaguars Receive: First Round Pick

The Arizona Cardinals made a massive trade when they acquired wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Texans for basically a second-round pick and David Johnson. The trade stunned the football world, and it meant that Arizona was ready to compete for a playoff spot.

Adding Ngakoue means they are ready to compete for a championship. It would be a risk, especially because they wouldn’t have a pick until the third round, but Arizona has all of the pieces.

After rookie Isaiah Simmons fell to them in the draft, Arizona improved at linebacker. They have a star edge rusher already in Chandler Jones. They have a formidable secondary with players like Budda Baker, Patrick Peterson, and Byron Murphy Jr. Arizona has a sneaky good defense with tons of potential. Adding another star pass rusher opposite Jones pushes their defense to the next level.

It is no secret the Cardinals would like to get their reliable veteran Larry Fitzgerald a ring before he retires. This might be his last run. The Cardinals are going to go all in this season and the Kyler Murray led offense looks scary. A defense with two star edge rushers, a Rookie DPOY favorite, and a solid second is going to match that offensive firepower and would make a Super Bowl a possibility.

The Jaguars, on the other hand, gain yet another first round pick in this deal for a player who is likely sitting out the season. Another rebuild continues under the Caldwell regime. With so many picks, this time they need to get it right.

  1. First of all, the Cardinals gave up a 2020 2nd round pick in the Hopkins trade not a 2021 2nd rounder. You reference them trading a 1st rounder for Ngakoue and not having a pick until the 3rd round. Secondly, how does this even make financial sense for the Cardinals? They have decisions to make with resigning Buddha Baker and Patrick Peterson next offseason, who are both gonna get PAID, if they’re resigned. I don’t even think they can make that trade financially right now for a 1st rounder

  2. The Raiders keep Joyner and the Jaguars keep Ngakoue.
The Raiders receive Jaguars second round pick for their fifth round pick. Mike Mayock needs to make that trade now!

  3. Why don’t you guys do any homework? Abram is the strong safety, and Joyner played out of position at slot corner last season. I’m not questioning your opinion that the Jags May need a FS, or that the Raiders would benefit from the trade, but PLEASE at least start from an informed premise.
