Throughout the offseason thus far, we’ve seen a handful of marquee players be released by their respective teams in the NFL. Altogether, the most notable players to be released were Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, Todd Gurley, Linval Joseph, Desmond Trufant, and Xavier Rhodes.
All of those players besides Newton have been able to find new places to call home in 2020. With the uncertainty surrounding his health coupled with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, Newton hasn’t received much interest in free agency.
Nevertheless, once everything clears up in the coming months, Newton should absolutely have a chance to sign elsewhere. On the other hand, seeing that training camps are right around the corner, there are going to be more releases happening this offseason.
Even at this point in the offseason, an expansion team could sign the remaining free agents and field a decent roster next season. What other players could be joining Newton and Gurley among the surprising cuts prior to the 2020 NFL season?
