A.J. Brown, Tennessee Titans
A.J. Brown was a breakout star last year for the Tennessee Titans. Brown was known for his big plays, averaging an incredible 20 yards per reception. He took over as the go to receiver once head coach Mike Vrabel made the switch to Ryan Tannehill.
Brown was drafted in the second round, but much of the pre-draft hype went to his college teammate D.K. Metcalf. Although both receivers had very solid rookie seasons in the NFL, Brown was statistically speaking the better receiver.
This season, the Titans are going to have Tannehill start at the beginning of the season. This should help Brown, who had a real chemistry with Tannehill. Although Brown did show his big play ability, he was held under 60 receptions.
Tennessee may need those numbers to rise this season, because averaging 20 yards per catch every year will be a nearly impossible feat. After an incredible playoff run, the Titans have plenty of momentum heading into this season. However, that momentum also paints a target on their back. Especially for Derrick Henry, the running back who carried the offense throughout the playoffs.
In order for Tennessee to have success the year, they must prove they aren’t a one dimensional team. That means Tannehill will have to be as efficient as he was last year. That also means that Brown may have to step up and prove he’s more than just a big play receiver.
It will be very interesting to see if A.J. Brown can make this transition when he faces off against teams number one corners consistently.
