NFL: 8 teams who could be most impacted by a salary cap decline

The impact of potentially not having fans in the stands during NFL games could result in a significant decline in the league’s salary cap figure in 2021. It could be a troubling reality for plenty of teams.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the league salary cap could potentially decline by as much as $40 million per team in 2021. The exact figure will not be known until the figures of the league’s revenue from the upcoming season become known, but the results without fans in stands will be troubling, nevertheless.

There is still a lot that needs to be sorted through before the NFL does reach the point where a dramatic decline in the salary cap occurs. There are alternative measures that could be used such as a ‘cap smoothening’ or a ‘flat cap’ to help alleviate the burden from hitting teams all at once.

The possibility of a dramatic drop in spending room is a possibility NFL teams should certainly be preparing for. Maintaining a contending roster will become more challenging for teams that already have committed most of their room for 2021 based on the original projection.

With that being said, here are eight NFL teams who could be most impacted by a potential salary cap decline.
