Patrick Mahomes is one of the most talented quarterbacks to ever play the game, but there is no doubt that something does not seem quite right with the Kansas City Chiefs star this season.

Analyst Jason Whitlock thinks the problem lies with Mahomes’ drive.

Speaking on his show Fearless this week, Whitlock said that Mahomes simply does not have the same sense of urgency that Tom Brady had during his career.

“I wanted to say this about Patrick Mahomes – what we’re finding out. Talented, Hall of Fame quarterback, going to go down in history as one of the top 10 quarterbacks, maybe top 5 of all time, but he does not have Tom Brady’s drive,” Whitlock said. “Winning isn’t as important to him as it was for Tom Brady.”

Whitlock went on to say that the difference in draft positioning between Mahomes and Brady may account for some of the gap in their respective motivation.

“Some of that has to do with Mahomes was a first-round pick, the Chiefs went up to get him I think in the top 10 of the draft, Tom Brady – chip on his shoulder, sixth-round pick, always had that chip on his shoulder,” he said. “The Chiefs and Mahomes are a bit satisfied.”

Mahomes has already won two Super Bowls and has been in three since entering the NFL in 2017. He has also earned a pair of MVP awards.

Not only that, but Whitlock feels that Mahomes’ lack of a true rival is also an issue.

“Pat Mahomes is in any commercial he wants to be in, he’s got two MVPs, two Super Bowls – he doesn’t have a peer,” he explained. “Take Brady, he was always competing with Peyton Manning. Who is Patrick Mahomes competing with? Nobody.”

While Patrick Mahomes has still been good this year, throwing for 3,127 yards, 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 67.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 95.1, he has not been performing up to his usual standards.

As a result, the Chiefs have gone just 2-3 over their last five games and are 8-4 on the season.

Kansas City will take on the Buffalo Bills this Sunday.
