NFL Analyst Gets Brutally Honest About Allen Robinson Joining Rams

Allen Robinson, Rams

The Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl in February, but they didn’t rest on their laurels this offseason. A few players have moved on for big paydays elsewhere that will be tough to replace in Von Miller and Darious Williams. Offensively, however, the Rams could be even better.

Running back Cam Akers will be even further removed from his Achilles injury, as he miraculously returned for the end of the regular season and playoff run. Facing some question marks at wide receiver behind Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles snagged arguably the best player at the position on the market in Allen Robinson.

Robinson will step right into the No. 2 role behind Kupp which had been occupied by Robert Woods before he injured his knee last season. Odell Beckham Jr. was signed days before the knee injury and played well himself, but also tore his ACL in the Super Bowl.

While both players are good in their own right, Robinson could be an upgrade on them. The Penn State product struggled in 2021 with injuries and more ineffective quarterback play, but he has put up some excellent numbers despite having underwhelming options getting him the ball.

There is a good chance we’ve never seen the full scale of what Robinson can do as he has been a part of some putrid passing offenses. He has managed to put up some stats himself, but he is in for a treat catching passes from Matthew Stafford.

Over at PFF, Sam Monson believes this is the best situation that Robinson has had in a long time.

As the graphic shows, he has been playing in some of the worst passing offenses in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars registering a grade of 56.1 and the Chicago Bears registering a 63.8. Monson very well could be correct.

In Robinson’s 1,000-yard seasons in the NFL, his quarterbacks were Blake Bortles, Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles. With the Nittany Lions collegiately, he was catching passes mostly from Matt McGloin and Christian Hackenberg.

Stafford, for comparison, had only one season with a lower grade than the Jaguars and Bears and it was his rookie season with the Detroit Lions. He had only two more seasons thus far the rest of his career that he registered a PFF grade under 70.

If you are looking for players to bounce back in 2022 after down 2021 campaigns, Robinson could be your guy.
