NFL Analyst Gets Brutally Honest About Colts QB Carson Wentz

One of the teams that could be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason is the Indianapolis Colts. This isn’t anything new for the Colts as they have had a different starting quarterback for four consecutive seasons.

Andrew Luck surprisingly retired following the 2018 season, which has created a huge void at the quarterback position the team has been unable to fill. Jacoby Brissett, Phillip Rivers and Carson Wentz have all been the leading passer since.

Last season, it was Wentz under center and the team was hopeful that he could regain the form he showed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. Wentz was the MVP front runner that season before injuring his knee and current Colts’ head coach Frank Reich was the offensive coordinator.

There was hope that the two reuniting would help get Wentz back on track, but that was not the case. Wentz had his moments, but when the team needed him most, he fell short. The Week 18 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars is a prime example of that.

Could it be a confidence thing for Wentz? That is what NFL analyst and former wide receiver, Greg Jennings, believes it to be. On a recent appearance on UNDISPUTED on FS1, Jennings shared his views on the Wentz situation.

He believes that Reich believes Wentz can get the job done, but Wentz himself isn’t as confident in himself. If that is the case, the Colts certainly have a quarterback problem on their hands.

Wentz was one of the major reasons that the team missed the postseason this past year and the organization cannot sit idly by and wait to see how things unfold. Adding some more weapons on the outside should help, but if Wentz can’t deliver the ball to them, you can have Hall of Fame-caliber wide receivers and it wouldn’t matter.

There is a chance that Wentz is back as the starter in 2022, but the Colts will certainly do their due diligence and see what other options become available. If they believe it will be an upgrade, they should pull the trigger as this Indianapolis roster is solid quarterback play away from being a legitimate contender in the AFC.
