Aaron Rodgers, Packers

The Aaron Rodgers saga could be coming to an end soon. He will be returning from his darkness retreat soon, which should bring about a decision about his future. Will he remain with the Green Bay Packers, ride off into retirement or seek to play in 2023 but with a different franchise?

All of those options are certainly on the table. But, it would be hard to envision Aaron Rodgers walking away from nearly $60 million, which he would be doing should he opt for retirement. Opinions are certainly varied on what the future Hall of Famer could choose to do.

Should he opt to move on, the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders seem like the most logical destinations. Both teams are outside of the NFC, which is likely a necessity for any deal that Green Bay makes so they don’t have to face him before a Super Bowl matchup. Both teams have huge voids at the quarterback spot and acquiring Aaron Rodgers could make them contenders.

Each team also has a connection to Aaron Rodgers. The Jets hired Nathaniel Hackett as offensive coordinator, who was with the Packers for his two most recent MVP campaigns. The Raiders have Davante Adams, whom Aaron Rodgers sorely missed during the 2022 season.

Despite that, Mike Jones of The Athletic has made a bold prediction about what will ensue. Both the Jets and Raiders have some appeal, but ultimately, he believes that Aaron Rodgers will remain with the Packers for at least one more season.

“And so, we have Rodgers remaining in Green Bay for one more season, hoping a second season with his young cast of receivers helps the Packers jump back into the ranks of contenders. Then, Rodgers, who has discussed the appeal of being a Packer for life, can also achieve that goal.”

While the 2022 season didn’t go according to plan, the last six weeks of the regular season gave a glimpse of what could be. The Packers went on a four-game winning streak near the end of the season, which set up a win and you’re in scenario in Week 18 against the Detroit Lions.

While they fell short in that game, the pieces are there for a quick turnaround in Green Bay. Despite some reports that the franchise is ready to move on from Aaron Rodgers, if he came back from his retreat committed to them for at least one more season, it is hard to imagine them turning him away.
