NFL Analyst Makes Surprising Prediction For Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb

The Dallas Cowboys are currently locked in a contract standoff with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, as Lamb has already held out of mandatory minicamp and may ultimately skip training camp if the two sides are unable to reach an agreement.

Lamb is preparing to enter the final year of his contract, so the Cowboys are certainly playing with fire here. However, most expect a deal to get done.

This has been a huge offseason for wide receivers, capped by Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson landing a four-year, $140 million pact. That made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Jefferson’s deal certainly set the stage for Lamb, who is expected to become the second-most expensive wide out in the league behind Jefferson.

Or can he actually surpass Jefferson?

What Type of Deal Will CeeDee Lamb Get?

Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder actually wouldn’t be surprised if Lamb inked a deal that exceeded Jefferson’s, noting that “the highest-paid player at the position is often the next one.”

That may be true in many cases, but it seems hard to imagine Dallas handing Lamb a larger deal than the one the Vikings gave Jefferson.

It would be one thing if Jefferson signed his extension last offseason, but he didn’t; it was at the beginning of this past week.

The more likely scenario seems to be Lamb falling between Jefferson and Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown, who notched a three-year, $96 million deal earlier this offseason.

That means Lamb will probably end up making somewhere in the neighborhood of $33-34 million per year; above Brown, but a tick below Jefferson on an average annual basis.

Lamb is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he led the NFL with 135 receptions to go along with 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. He made his third straight Pro Bowl and earned a First-Team All-Pro selection for his efforts.

The Cowboys also have to worry about extending quarterback Dak Prescott, who is slated to be a free agent next offseason. Plus, edge rusher Micah Parsons became eligible for a new deal this offseason.

However, it seems that Dallas is prioritizing CeeDee Lamb at the moment, so the general expectation is that the Cowboys will strike a pact with him sometime in the coming weeks (or months).
