With the regular season quickly approaching in the NFL, there are a lot of predictions being shared about what could happen in 2022. With gambling becoming more prevalent, season-long wagers are being made as people try and cash in on yardage and touchdown props. No one truly knows what to expect from the San Francisco 49ers though.

Another popular prop is betting on who will win the MVP award in the league. There are plenty of great options heading into the season as there are some high-flying offenses that will produce some gaudy numbers. But, team performance also needs to be taken into account as voters are more likely to pick someone playing at a high level on a winning team compared to someone putting up stats on a losing team.

There are always some dark horses, but one player that has gained steam throughout the offseason is San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance. He was named the starter early on, as he will be replacing Jimmy Garoppolo.

Lance is a raw prospect but is oozing with talent and potential. He has the skills to elevate this offense to another level, possessing talent that Garoppolo just didn’t have as a runner. With Kyle Shanahan running the offense, a dual-threat player of Lance’s caliber could certainly stuff the stat sheet.

While some people believe it will be a tough adjustment in his first season as the 49ers’ starter, there are others that believe Lance will take the league by storm. One person who is high on Lance entering the season is ESPN’s, Chris Canty. Canty is expecting big things from the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

“My bold prediction for this season is that the 49ers will represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. That’s how confident I am in this 49ers team and the development of Trey Lance.”

Canty certainly isn’t alone in this sentiment as Lance has gone from 200-1 odds to win the MVP award to 40-1 on August 3rd and is even lower present day. Despite being as raw as he is, Lance is set up to succeed from the start with what San Francisco has put around him.

The 49ers should also be one of the best teams in the NFL once again as they have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. That all could add up to Lance being in the running for some hardware at the end of the 2022 season.
