The Chicago Bears will almost certainly trade Justin Fields this coming offseason, and Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay thinks the quarterback-needy Las Vegas Raiders represent a prime destination for him.
In an article in which Kay lists five NFL offseason trades that make plenty of sense, he mentions the Raiders trading a third-round draft pick to the Bears in exchange for Fields as one of them.
Kay notes that Las Vegas appears to be headed for a rebuild after the season and that its quarterback situation is not exactly stable heading into 2024.
The Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year deal last spring, but Garoppolo was a massive disappointment and was benched in favor of rookie Aidan O’Connell midway through the season. While O’Connell has shown some flashes, he hasn’t been nearly consistent enough to guarantee himself a starting job next year.
Fields is just 24 years old, and while the first three years of his NFL career have been anything but smooth, he has shown considerable potential, especially this season.
The Ohio State product got off to a rather rough start in 2023 but rebounded in Weeks 4 and 5, compiling eight passing touchdowns and just one interception over those two games. Unfortunately, Fields then suffered a dislocated thumb the following week, knocking him out for four straight contests.
Through 12 starts this season overall, Fields has thrown for 2,414 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine picks while completing 61 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 85.8. He has also rushed for 630 yards and four scores.
Great numbers? Hardly, but they are certainly a step up from Fields’ first two seasons, and there is no doubt that he has exhibited tantalizing talent for stretches this year.
The Bears will own the No. 1 overall pick in this spring’s NFL Draft courtesy of the Carolina Panthers, and they are projected to take one of the top quarterbacks in the draft class. As a result, Justin Fields will likely be the odd man out. We’ll see if the Raiders come calling.
