NFL Analyst Reveals Big Prediction For Buccaneers, Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield has revitalized his NFL career as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season, putting him on track to land a decent pay day this coming offseason.

Mayfield is set to become a free agent in March, and given how much of a premium is put on quarterbacks in this league, he will certainly be a hot commodity on the open market.

However, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports does not think the Buccaneers will let him get very far.

Benjamin projects that Tampa Bay will re-sign Mayfield to a two-year, $54 million deal, providing some stability for both sides for the next couple of seasons.

While Benjamin says he does not necessarily believe that a team can build around Mayfield, he says that you can build with him. In other words, you won’t win because of Mayfield, but you can win with him so long as you have adequate supporting pieces.

Benjamin says that this would be a deal similar to the one the Seattle Seahawks gave Geno Smith, where they gain stability in the short term while also maintaining long-term flexibility.

Through 16 games this season, Mayfield has thrown for 3,907 yards, 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 64.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 95.9.

This comes a year after Mayfield’s career appeared to be on life support after splitting the 2022 campaign with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams. During that time, he totaled 10 touchdowns and eight picks.

The Bucs had the opportunity to clinch the NFC South division title last week, but lost to the New Orleans Saints. The good news is that Baker Mayfield and Co. will get a mulligan this Sunday. All they have to do is beat the Panthers, and they will capture the division crown.

The Buccaneers are 8-8 and are aiming to make their fourth straight playoff appearance.
