Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

Caleb Williams has already made his Chicago Bears debut.

Well, kind of.

Williams participated in the Bears’ rookie minicamp over the weekend, and the hype surrounding the No. 1 overall pick continues to build.

NFL analyst Craig Carton threw more fuel on to the hype train’s fire on Monday morning, saying that the incoming first-year quarterback is going to be a “rockstar” while revealing a potential comparison for him: Houston Texans star C.J. Stroud.

While Carton didn’t go as far to say that Williams will be as good as Stroud, he stated that it would be “more likely” for Williams to follow in the footsteps of Stroud than Carolina Panthers signal-caller Bryce Young during his rookie campaign in 2024.

We all know what Stroud achieved last season.

The Ohio State product, who was selected by the Texans with the second overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 63.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 100.8. He also led the NFL with 273.9 passing yards per game and guided Houston to a stunning AFC South division title.

Not only that, but Stroud piloted the Texans to a blowout win over the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before ultimately falling to the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round the following week.

If Williams can have even close to the type of year Stroud had, the Bears will definitely be in for a fun season in 2024.

Williams is coming off of a 2023 campaign with USC in which he threw for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 68.6 percent of his passes. He also punched in 11 rushing scores.

The 21-year-old originally began his collegiate career at Oklahoma in 2021, but transferred to USC after one year. In his debut season with the Trojans, Williams totaled 4,537 yards, 42 touchdowns and five picks while completing 66.6 percent of his throws. Additionally, he rushed for 382 yards and 10 scores.

Williams will be stepping into a terrific situation in Chicago, as the Bears are loaded with weapons offensively and also have a solid defense.

Chicago went 7-10 this past year and notably went 7-6 after a miserable 0-4 start.

We’ll see if Caleb Williams can pull a C.J. Stroud and potentially lead the Bears to the playoffs in Year 1.
