The Minnesota Vikings face a significant dilemma concerning their quarterback, Kirk Cousins, as they head into this offseason.
Kirk Cousins, who has been with the Vikings for the past six seasons, is poised to enter free agency in March, and his future with the team remains uncertain.
While Cousins expresses a desire to return to the Vikings, the franchise must weigh their options, given that he is currently 35 years old and will turn 36 before the start of the next season.
ESPN’s Kevin Seifert has offered his prediction on the matter, suggesting that the Vikings are likely to retain Cousins.
“Drafting at No. 11, Minnesota isn’t likely to select one of the top-tier quarterbacks in the class, so it makes sense to bring back Cousins. So in this case, let’s re-sign him to a two-year, $85 million fully guaranteed extension. That gives the Vikings two years — until Cousins is 38 years old — to draft and develop his successor.”
Despite the financial commitment that Cousins represents, it’s essential to consider his impressive performance this year before suffering an Achilles injury.
Over eight games, he displayed remarkable accuracy, completing 69.5% of his passes for a total of 2,331 yards, along with 18 touchdowns and just five interceptions.
Regardless of the outcome, Kirk Cousins is expected to have numerous suitors vying for his services when March rolls around.
