NFL Analyst Reveals Shocking Take On Browns’ RB Nick Chubb

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is unfortunately somewhat of an afterthought in the minds of most heading into 2024.

The star rusher suffered a devastating knee injury in Week 2 of last season which resulted in multiple surgeries. He is not expected to be ready for the 2024 season opener, and there seems to be a good chance that he misses a good chunk of the year.

That’s why Thomas Valentine of Pro Football Focus ranking him fourth among all NFL running backs going into next season is pretty surprising.

Valentine qualifies his statement by noting the severity of is injury, so he seems to be basing his ranking off of what Chubb has done in the past.

When healthy, there is absolutely no doubt that Chubb is one of the best halfbacks in football.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, registering 996 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging a robust 5.2 yards per carry.

Then, from 2019 through 2022, Chubb rattled off four straight 1,000-yard campaigns, topping out at 1,525 yards in the latter season.

Chubb made four straight trips to the Pro Bowl during that span, establishing himself as one of the premier running backs in football.

Not only that, but Chubb was absurdly efficient throughout that stretch, logging no less than five yards per attempt in any of those seasons. His best year in that category came in 2020, when he registered 5.6 yards per tote. He boasts a lifetime average of 5.3 yards per carry.

Whether or not Chubb will ever be able to regain his form after such a horrendous injury remains to be seen. He is already beginning to age for a running back, and he also had a knee injury back in college.

Of course, if Chubb can get back to playing like his old self, he will absolutely be one of the best playmakers in the league once again.

Hopefully, we will get to see that version of him sometime in 2024.

The Browns went 11-6 and made the playoffs last season. They ended up getting routed by the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.
