NFL Analyst Reveals Team Who Wouldn’t Fit Well For Justin Fields

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly eyeing Justin Fields as a potential addition to their roster for the upcoming season. Some sportsbooks even list them as the frontrunners to acquire him, placing them ahead of his current team, the Chicago Bears.

However, not everyone believes this move would be beneficial for Fields’ development. Sports analyst Colin Cowherd, for instance, has expressed skepticism about the potential fit.

Cowherd argues that both the Steelers and the Bears are known for their defensive-oriented approach to the game.

“I don’t think this is great for his career. He needs an offensive head coach.”

Joining a team led by defensive-minded coach Mike Tomlin might not provide the ideal environment for Fields to flourish, Cowherd suggests, echoing concerns about whether it would be an improvement over his current situation under Matt Eberflus in Chicago.

The sentiment is not without merit. The Steelers haven’t boasted an elite quarterback since the decline of Ben Roethlisberger, and their roster and game plan have traditionally leaned heavily on their defensive prowess. Nevertheless, there are elements within the Steelers’ setup that could complement Fields’ skill set and benefit from his presence.

For one, the Steelers possess a more robust offensive line compared to the Bears, providing better protection and support for their quarterback. Additionally, they boast a deeper pool of talent at both the running back and wide receiver positions. This array of offensive weapons could potentially elevate Fields’ performance and contribute to his success on the field.

Drawing a parallel, some point to Arthur Smith’s success with Ryan Tannehill during his tenure with the Tennessee Titans. Smith’s coaching prowess helped revitalize Tannehill’s career, transforming him from a middling performer to a reliable quarterback.

With Fields’ dual-threat abilities and considerable talent, it’s conceivable that he could thrive under the guidance of a coach like Smith, especially with a more talented supporting cast around him.

In essence, while there are valid concerns about the fit between Justin Fields and the Steelers’ defensive-oriented approach, there are also compelling reasons to believe that Fields could find success in Pittsburgh, particularly given the team’s offensive assets and the potential impact of a skilled offensive-minded coach.

The 2024 NFL offseason is going to be a wild ride and Justin Fields is a name to get used to hearing in the rumor mill.
