NFL Analyst Sends Stern Warning To Bills Playmaker For 2024

The Buffalo Bills lost their top two wide receivers this offseason, as they watched Gabe Davis sign elsewhere in free agency and then traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.

As a result, the Bills’ receiving corps is a major question mark heading into 2024.

Buffalo did sign Curtis Samuel, but he is certainly not a No. 1 option. The team has hope for Khalil Shakir, and it selected Keon Coleman in the second round of the NFL Draft last month, but a whole lot is still up in the air as far as the depth chart at the position is concerned.

One interesting name to monitor is Chase Claypool.

Claypool is aiming to revitalize his career after signing with the Bills earlier this month, and Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks the wide out is on the bubble heading into camp.

Knox notes that Claypool’s contract makes him “an easy cut candidate” if he doesn’t impress Buffalo’s staff in the coming week and months. He goes as far to say that Claypool’s performance during organized team activities could end up having a major impact on whether or not he sticks around long term.

This is certainly a golden opportunity for Claypool, who was once one of the more interesting young receivers in football.

Claypool, who played his collegiate football at Notre Dame, was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, hauling in 62 receptions for 873 yards and nine touchdowns. However, the following season, Claypool’s production stagnated, as he caught 59 passes for 860 yards and a couple of scores.

Then, in 2022, Claypool’s behavioral issues wore thin on Mike Tomlin, causing the Steelers to trade him to the Chicago Bears midway through the season.

In 15 games between Pittsburgh and Chicago that year, Claypool snared 46 balls for 451 yards while reaching the end zone once.

The Bears then dealt Claypool to the Miami Dolphins midway through the 2023 campaign, a season in which he amassed a grand total of eight catches for 77 yards and a score.

Obviously, Claypool has fallen from grace, but he has a chance to re-establish himself as a legitimate threat in a Bills receiving corps that is in desperate need of a standout talent.
