NFL Analyst Slams ‘Trash’ Chicago Bears Organization

The Chicago Bears have gotten off to another rough start this season, dropping their first two games. Most recently, the Bears fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 27-17 this past Sunday.

Earlier this week, quarterback Justin Fields took a shot at the coaching staff, blaming it for his “robotic” play over the first couple of games of 2023.

On Thursday, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith ripped the Bears, calling them a “trash” organization.

Smith cited Chicago’s awful utilization of Fields, questioning why the team isn’t allowing him to run more. Fields rushed for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging a robust 7.1 yards per carry last season, becoming just the third quarterback in NFL history to register a 1,000-yard campaign on the ground (Michael Vick and Lamar Jackson are the other two).

So far this season, Fields has carried the ball just 13 times for 62 yards and a score, and in the Bears’ loss to the Buccaneers in Week 2, Fields only had four rushing attempts and logged a meager three yards.

Since being selected by Chicago with the 11th overall pick in 2021, Fields has gone just 5-22 as a starter and has struggled considerably as a passer.

However, Fields did show some progression last season, throwing 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while posting a respectable passer rating of 85.2.

Smith has a point, though. It may be time for the Bears to stop trying to have Fields force things from the pocket and let him use his legs to create some offense for a lethargic Chicago squad.

While the Bears did make the playoffs as recently as the 2020-21 campaign, they have not posted a winning season since 2018. They have made just two postseason appearances since 2011.

Chicago will look to pick up its first victory of the season when it hosts the winless Denver Broncos on Sunday.
