With the 2023 NFL offseason slowing down to nearly a halt outside of OTA’s, there are still some teams looking to make moves. One of those teams could be the Arizona Cardinals, who are still rumored to be open to trading superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Could the Philadelphia Eagles make a play in trade discussions?

On the outside looking in, the idea of the Eagles pursuing a trade for Hopkins seems very unlikely. They already have AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith as their top two wideouts. However, a trade for Hopkins would be very welcomed by superstar quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Bleacher Report recently wrote an article about some shocking trades the Eagles should pursue before the 2023 season. They had Hopkins come in on that list. The other two players they listed were Cardinals’ star safety Budda Baker and also moving their own wide receiver, Quez Watkins.

Here’s a brief snippet of what the article had to say on the Eagles pursuing a trade for Hopkins.

“It’s a lot of money for a team that’s already on a tight budget, but this is an Eagles team that’s incredibly close to winning a Lombardi Trophy. Adding Hopkins to the mix might push them over the top, and that’s worth a cost-benefit analysis.”

Hopkins is coming off of a down season with the Cardinals in 2022. He caught 64 passes for 717 yards and three touchdowns. While it was a down season, those numbers still don’t look awful. That shows what kind of impact Hopkins could make on the Eagles.

At 30 years of age, Hopkins is in the last stage of his prime. Joining a team like the Eagles where he could compete for a Super Bowl with a quarterback like Hurts would likely be welcomed by the star wideout.

What would it cost the Eagles to pull off a blockbuster trade for DeAndre Hopkins? Many believe a second-round pick would be the likely compensation. If that is what it would take to make the trade, Philadelphia should go for it.

With the Eagles just a piece or two away from a Super Bowl win last year, acquiring Hopkins could very well push them over the top. It’s a move worth taking a financial chance on.
