The Green Bay Packers are in dire need of a No. 1 wide receiver, and the Cincinnati Bengals may have the antidote.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named Bengals wide out Tee Higgins as one of the top potential trade candidates with the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline looming, and he suggests that the Packers could be a potential landing spot for him.
While it may sound crazy for Cincinnati to make such a move while trying to contend for a Super Bowl, it isn’t out of the realm of posssibility.
Yes, the Bengals entered the season with high expectations, but they have slumped out to an 0-2 start. In addition, Cincy failed to reach a long-term agreement with Higgins prior to the season, meaning the 24-year-old will be a free agent come springtime. It has also been reported that Higgins probably does not factor into the Bengals’ future plans.
Cincinnati will have a pair of wide receivers hitting the free-agent market in the offseason: Higgins and Tyler Boyd. Higgins will certainly be the more expensive of the two, and with No. 1 receiver Ja’Marr Chase eligible for an extension in 2024, the Bengals may opt to recoup some value for Higgins by moving him and re-sign the cheaper Boyd (or simply look elsewhere for receiver help).
The Packers have assembled a stable of young wide outs with potential, but they certainly do not have any proven commodities at the position. With young quarterback Jordan Love needing some help, Green Bay would certainly represent a realistic destination for Higgins should Cincinnati decide to place him on the trade block.
Higgins entered the league as a second-round draft pick in 2020 and is coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns. Through two games this season, he has logged eight catches for 89 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
