NFL Analyst Thinks Commanders Could Trade For Aaron Rodgers

The 2023 NFL offseason hasn’t even officially begun yet but there has already been a lot of chatter about where Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers could end up. Speculation has increased as it is looking like a real possibility that the future Hall of Famer is playing elsewhere next season.

While an official decision from Aaron Rodgers likely won’t come for a little while longer, there are already plenty of people guessing where he may end up. A popular destination is with the New York Jets, who hired former Packers’ offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to man the same position with them.

Hackett bombed as the head coach of the Denver Broncos during the 2022 season, getting fired after one season. However, Aaron Rodgers won two MVP awards with Hackett as his offensive coordinator.

The San Francisco 49ers have been mentioned as another potential landing spot, sending Aaron Rodgers back home. Another franchise recently mentioned by NFL analyst Marcus Spears was the Washington Commanders.

Spears was asked on a recent episode of ESPN’s Get Up if Aaron Rodgers’ only priority is winning in 2023, which is the best franchise for him to land with. Spears believes it is with the Commanders.

“The Washington Commanders,” he said. “They’ve been trying to find a quarterback. They got a really good defense, a really good defensive line. They got really good weapons on the outside; Terry McLaurin is a very underrated guy we don’t talk about much because they don’t win a lot of games. They got Dotson out of Penn State, who is really good, as well. Aaron Rodgers would have his weapons, his backfield; he would be under new ownership that would probably be willing to pay him some money. And the other thing is this; he would play in the NFC East; we had three teams go into the playoffs, so why not four?”

The reasoning is sound; Aaron Rodgers would be set up well should he land with the Commanders. Alas, it is highly doubtful that the Packers would trade him to an NFC team.

They want to avoid playing against him as much as possible, which likely means an AFC team will be the one that emerges as his landing spot. If Washington were to have any chance at landing him, they would likely have to pay an exorbitant price to even get into the conversation.
