Through three games of the NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the most dominant teams in the league. They continued rolling in their Week 3 matchup against the Washington Commanders, winning 24-8.
They have been dominant on both sides of the ball as the defense has responded after a poor fourth quarter against the Detroit Lions in Week 1. The offense has clicked from the first drive of the season as Jalen Hurts has taken a major step forward.
Philadelphia committed to upgrading the team around Hurts and he has made the most of the changes. Through three games, he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, completing 67.3 percent of his passes for 916 yards. He has only one turnover in three games, tossing one interception against the Minnesota Vikings compared to four passing touchdowns.
Hurts has been just as great with his legs, as he is tough to stop as a rusher. He has run for 167 yards and three more touchdowns, proving that he is now a true dual-threat as he is beating teams with his arm as much as his legs through three games.
The performance of the Eagles and Hurts has people starting to take notice. Some believe that he has put himself squarely in the MVP discussion in the early going. One of the people in that camp is Stephen A. Smith.
“Lamar Jackson is a stud. … But Jalen Hurts is on a better team, and Jalen Hurts is balling, and he has improved dramatically.”
There are certainly a lot of players that have performed at an MVP level through the first three weeks of the season. Hurts has added his name to the discussion as he is not only producing big numbers, but the Eagles have been victorious.
That is a winning recipe for an MVP candidate as Hurts has the statistics and team results that voters look for. There is still a ton of time left in the season, but the first impression being made in the City of Brotherly Love is garnering attention.
