It’s no secret that Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright is not a huge fan of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

As everyone has been singing Purdy’s praises throughout the season, Wright has maintained that Purdy is merely a product of Kyle Shanahan’s system in San Francisco.

This past Sunday, Wright seems to feel he was vindicated, as Purdy went 12-for-27 with 125 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 19-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Purdy struggled mightily against the Browns’ elite defense, and this week, Wright said that Purdy is not even currently above quarterbacks like Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith, Derek Carr and Sam Howell.

While Chris Broussard argued that one bad performance shouldn’t be used as a barometer to judge Purdy, Wright insisted that we all do the same thing for other signal-callers when they have a bad game against a good defense, so why not Purdy?

On the season overall, Purdy has thrown for 1,396 yards, 10 touchdowns and one pick while completing 67.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 111.9.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Iowa State, was selected by the 49ers with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Purdy began his rookie campaign as San Francisco’s third-string quarterback but was pressed into starting duty due to injuries to both Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance.

The Queen Creek, Az. native responded by going 5-0 in five regular-season starts and leading the Niners all the way to the NFC Championship Game, where they ultimately fell to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Brock Purdy also got off to a 5-0 start this season and was cruising before the Browns and their top-ranked defense took him down a notch in Week 6.

The 49ers will look to get back on track when they take on the Minnesota Vikings this weekend.
