One of the more intriguing matchups of Wild Card weekend will pit two long-time, bitter, old-school rivals in the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys against each other. The NFC East champion Cowboys will be hosting the 49ers at AT&T Stadium in what is the shortest lined game of the round.

A lot of eyes will be on the 49ers’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He could very well be auditioning for his next job, as San Francisco has Trey Lance waiting in the wings to take over. Lance was selected No. 3 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft and some people are surprised he didn’t overtake Garoppolo this season.

The 49ers don’t have an explosive offense through the air, preferring to wear teams down with a strong running game. But, Garoppolo did play well when called upon and should be commended for battling through a thumb injury to help get San Francisco into the postseason.

In 15 games, Garoppolo threw for 3,810 yards, completing 68.3 percent of his passes. He threw 20 touchdowns and struggled at times with interceptions, tossing 12. But, one analyst is expecting Garoppolo to fall short this postseason.

Skip Bayless of FS1 trashed Garoppolo on his show, Undisputed, with Shannon Sharpe. He has the utmost confidence in the Cowboys defeating the 49ers this weekend and Garoppolo will be the reason why San Francisco loses.

Some of the things that he says need to be taken with a grain of salt, as he is playing somewhat of a character on television for the show. He is also a big Cowboys fan, so that could be his fandom speaking as much as anything.

If the 49ers can execute their game plan, the 49ers have a good chance of upsetting the Cowboys this weekend. Garoppolo has a ton of weapons to spread the ball to in what could be one of the higher scoring games of Wild Card weekend.
