The Chicago Bears currently boast one of the most thrilling prospects in the NFL: quarterback Caleb Williams.

Given this, it’s only natural that they want to keep their prized rookie safe and sound.

However, despite his immense talent, Williams is still a rookie.

That’s why Chris Bleck and Adam Abdalla argue that the Bears should definitely play him in Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Buffalo Bills, even if it’s just for a single drive.

During their discussion on ESPN 1000, they acknowledged the Bears’ desire to keep Williams healthy but stressed that they can’t shield him indefinitely.

For the Bears to be successful in the regular season, they need to establish a strong center-quarterback connection, which can only be achieved through real game reps.

There are valid concerns about the Bears’ thin offensive line and their health issues as the season approaches, with no definitive starting center at present.

Williams is exceptionally talented, and the Chicago Bears have equipped him with plenty of offensive weapons, but he still needs to acclimate to the speed and feel of the NFL game.

All rookies experience a learning curve, and there’s no better time to make mistakes than in the preseason.

While teams need to be cautious with their starters and avoid unnecessary risks, Caleb Williams must earn his place in the league, just like everyone who came before him.
