The Saints’ Secondary Appears Set
For a team gearing up to compete for a Super Bowl victory, it’s important to have a reliable secondary with depth. There have consistently been impactful top-end talents for the New Orleans Saints in this area with Marshon Lattimore setting the tone.
Heading into the 2020 NFL season, it appears the Saints have found real depth in their secondary with Janoris Jenkins playing a key role. New Orleans previously acquired him midway through last season and will be an important piece during the upcoming year.
A particular moment in Saints camp stuck out when savvy route-runner Emmanuel Sanders was ‘surprised’ by how effective Jenkins managed to stop on a dime to break up a pass.
“I thought I was going to be wide open, and this guy stopped on a dime,” Sanders said, via Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football. “His feet are really good. He stopped on a dime and broke the pass up. I was really surprised. I’ve never seen a guy cover that route, how I ran it.”
One of the main concerns with Jenkins has never been his talent. Since being selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, his ability to make big plays on the football field has been known. However, mentally staying engaged has been the struggle.
It appears Jenkins is in a great place mentally with the Saints and that’s intriguing to see. If he can stay motivated and on track, it’s difficult to see why he can’t continue the momentum he’s established from training camp into New Orleans’ matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.
