There have been a lot of discussions in recent weeks about what the Green Bay Packers are going to do with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. In recent weeks, momentum has picked up that the team could actually move on from the future Hall of Famer.
Speculation began running rampant after Aaron Rodgers told Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Jameson Williams he was going to be holding onto his jersey following their Week 18 matchup. Many people took that as a sign that Aaron Rodgers would be moving on, whether it was into retirement or onto another franchise.
In the time since that game, all signs have pointed toward a trade eventually occurring. There have been reports leaking about how much the Packers would ask for in a trade package, as it would cost at least two first-round picks. Another report indicated that Green Bay’s preference was to trade him and that Aaron Rodgers would be willing to restructure his contract to get a deal done.
The New York Jets have been heavily rumored as a landing spot for him, following the same path that Brett Favre did in 2008. Jets owner Woody Johnson has been vocal this offseason about his willingness to bring in a veteran quarterback as he believes that is the missing piece.
All signs point toward a move being made eventually, but not everyone believes that will be the case. One former NFL executive that spoke to NFL Analysis Network believes Aaron Rodgers won’t be going anywhere.
“I actually think something completely different. I think Aaron Rodgers will be back in Green Bay. The rumors have flown over the last couple of years, but I don’t think the Packers are ready to ship him out of town.”
If that is the route that Green Bay opts to take, a trade is still more than likely going to occur. If Aaron Rodgers is back in 2023, you can expect Jordan Love to look for a change of scenery. There have been reports that he would request a trade if he wasn’t projected to be the starter for the Packers.
Something will have to give this offseason as it would be shocking if the Packers held onto both Aaron Rodgers and Love for another season. Entering Year 4, it is time for Love to showcase what he has, whether it is in Green Bay or elsewhere.
