San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy continues to impress, as he put together another strong performance in the 49ers’ Week 4 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Purdy went 20-for-21 with 283 yards and a touchdown while also punching in a rushing score in the 35-16 victory, improving to 9-0 as a starter dating back to last year.
There has been plenty of buzz surrounding Purdy over the first few weeks of 2023, and a former NFL executive told the NFL Analysis Network his comparison for Purdy.
“Look, I’ve heard the Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady comparisons. Those are eye-popping, but there’s another quarterback he reminds me of right now. A better potential version of Kirk Cousins,” the former exec said.
Purdy is certainly doing a fine Cousins impression thus far.
On the season overall, he has thrown for 1,019 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. He is also completing 72.3 percent of his passes while posting a robust passer rating of 115.1.
The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Iowa State, was originally selected by San Francisco with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Purdy entered his rookie campaign as the Niners’ third-string quarterback behind Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance but was pressed into starting duty after injuries to both players.
The Queen Creek, Az. native went on to total 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns and four picks while completing 67.1 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 107.3 in nine appearances and five starts. He went 5-0 as a starter and led the 49ers all the way to the NFC Championship Game.
While the jury is still out on Brock Purdy, it’s hard to ignore the results we have seen from him through the first nine starts of his NFL career.
Purdy will look to run his personal record to 10-0 when San Francisco takes on the Dallas Cowboys in a potential playoff preview next Sunday.
