NFL Exec Predicts Jarvis Landry Will Sign With Dallas Cowboys

After falling short once again in the postseason, the Dallas Cowboys enter the 2023 offseason needing to make a few upgrades to their roster. The team was near the top 10 on both offense and defense but was unable to put it all together in the postseason, losing their seventh consecutive divisional-round game.

Getting the offense humming more efficiently and consistently is one of the team’s goals for this offseason. They already began that process, moving on from Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator. Head coach Mike McCarthy will now handle the play calling.

It is certainly a risk moving on from Moore, as it isn’t his fault that Dak Prescott turned into a turnover machine during the 2022 season. Alas, that is the path that the Cowboys opted to take and now they have to put McCarthy in as good of a position to succeed as possible.

One way to accomplish that would be upgrading their wide receiver position. CeeDee Lamb is a bonafide No. 1 receiver, but the depth behind him is shaky. Michael Gallup showed some signs of regaining his form as he works his way back from an ACL tear, but the team needs a third receiver.

Dallas has been connected to Odell Beckham Jr., but a former NFL executive that spoke to NFL Analysis Network believes they will go in a different direction. The executive believes that Jarvis Landry will be who the Cowboys end up with.

“The Cowboys are going to look to make a splash at wide receiver. Jarvis Landry may not be viewed by most as a splash anymore, but he would be a big-time addition. I think that’s where he ends up, although other teams will be interested as well.”

Landry certainly wouldn’t be categorized as a splash in 2023. He is coming off the least productive season of his career as he caught only 25 passes for 272 yards and one touchdown. Injuries played a big part in his lack of production as he appeared in only nine games with the New Orleans Saints.

Strapped for cash and with more glaring holes on the roster, it would make sense if Dallas pursued a veteran of Landry’s caliber. They could hope for a bounceback season out of him and could really use a slot receiver capable of making plays over the middle of the field.

While Landry has lost a step, he was a premier slot receiver not too long ago. He wouldn’t be asked to come in and be a savior for the Cowboys, instead just playing a complementary role behind Lamb, taking some pressure off of him.
