2. A.J. Green
Green did not play in 2019 after suffering an injury in training camp. He will return to Cincinnati on a franchise tag worth $18.1 million in 2020. Green entered the league and quickly turned into one of the top receivers in the league. He was named to the Pro Bowl during the first seven years of his career.
Injuries have been an issue for Green. In 2018, Green missed seven games and played just 10 in 2016. At 32-years old, Green could have some left in the tank. This is something that the Niners will have a chance to study over the course of the 2020 season. It’s important to keep in mind that he will be working within a poor offense with a promising rookie quarterback.
The wide receiver position is one that Shanahan has been trying to upgrade since becoming head coach. He will feature a young receiving corps in 2020 with Samuel, Aiyuk, and Kendrick Bourne.
Green would act as a leader in the locker room and provide a proven voice on the field. The Niners lost Emmanuel Sanders to the New Orleans Saints, this would be a chance to add another veteran a year later.
