2. New England Patriots
The Patriots are in a transition period. Tom Brady signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Patriots decided to sign former MVP Cam Newton to a one-year contract for little money. This seems like a prove it deal for Newton.
If he is going to prove his worth, he will need some weapons. We all saw how Brady struggled with the lack of skill position players for New England.
In 2020, the Patriots will have Julian Edelman and Mohamed Sanu as their top two receivers. Second year man N’Keal Harry will try and bounce back from an injury, while Sony Michel and James White control the backfield. In this lineup, White is the team’s second most reliable receiver behind Edelman. Cooper Kupp is a receiver that would fit in well with the Patriots’ offense.
Bill Belichick has had success with smaller receivers with great hands such as Edelman, Wes Welker, and Danny Amendola. Kupp has the ability, plus decent size at 6-foot-2. He is an excellent route runner and someone that can be a security blanket for Newton, or Jarrett Stidham, in 2021.
One thing that is certain is that Belichick does not like to lose, so he will be after some top-tier players in free agency.
