3. New York Jets
The New York Jets entered the offseason with Jamison Crowder and Josh Doctson as their top two receivers. It is clear they needed pass catchers and the Jets made minimal strides in improving the unit.
New York signed Breshad Perriman to a one-year, $8 million deal. This is relatively insignificant. The biggest move they made was drafting Baylor wide receiver Denzel Mims in the second round. The Jets have not had a dominant No. 1 receiver since Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker back in 2015. The biggest need on this team is an offensive line to protect Sam Darnold, but they also need weapons for their young quarterback to use.
Let’s be clear, the Jets will never compete with Adam Gase on the sideline. He is arguably the worst coach in football and that is par for the course for the Jets. The stars could align if Gase is let go during the 2020 season right before Schuster hits free agency. Mims will have one year to burst onto the scene.
The Jets will have upwards of $60 million in cap space next year. Robby Anderson is now in Carolina so the Jets are in need of a big time receiver. This could be Schuster once free agency begins in 2021.
