NFL Free Agency 2021: 5 way-too-early landing spots for Leonard Fournette

Patriots, Sony Michel

4. New England Patriots

The Patriots are entering a new era this season, with Jarret Stidham taking over for Tom Brady. More specific to the running back group, Sony Michel is coming off averaging 3.7 yards per carry last year and he’s recovering from foot surgery in May. James White is a fine pass-catching back, and Rex Burkhead just can’t stay healthy.

The Patriots may try to trade for Fournette if things break bad with Michel’s recovery. So they could get a look at him with no real commitment, then decide if they want to extend the relationship.

Other backs (Corey Dillon, LeGarrette Blount, etc.) have had solid second acts in a Patriots’ uniform. Fournette could be next, and it may start before he hits free agency.
