NFL Free Agency 2021: Predicting where each notable QB will sign

Philip Rivers

There is a chance that Philip Rivers retires at the end of this season. So take this with a grain of salt. However, if Rivers does return, he may want to go somewhere familiar. Carolina is the perfect location for Rivers considering he played college football at NC State.

The switch to the Panthers would also reunite him with his former head coach Norv Turner, who is serving as the Panthers’ special assistant to the head coach.

While the Panthers signed Teddy Bridgwater this past offseason, bringing in Rivers could make sense. Carolina will get a strong understanding of what Bridgewater is capable of achieving after a full-season to monitor his play on the field. Both quarterbacks could battle for the starting job.

Although he was one of the leaders in passing yards last season, it was clear that Rivers’ play is starting to decline. He has very little mobility in the pocket. While that could work for the Colts because of their superior offensive line, it may not work for most teams.

Carolina has cap space, deep threats, and the NFL’s best receiving back in Christian McCaffrey. These are all things Philip Rivers has had throughout his entire career. The Panther may want to take a shot on the old gunslinger.

Prediction: Carolina Panthers
