NFL Free Agency 2021: Predicting where each notable QB will sign

Jameis Winston, Saints

Jameis Winston

While staying in New Orleans may be an option, their scheme doesn’t really fit Jameis Winston’s gunslinger mentality. Much of the Saints’ offense is about short and intermediate throws. While he is able to make those throws, to this point in his career, he has been a big risk-taker.

The system that may better fit his style is up north in Pittsburgh. The Steelers love to throw the ball deep. Historically under Mike Tomlin, they have had one of the NFL’s best passing attacks. While that did not hold true last season, much of that was due to their quarterback issues.

Jameis Winston is coming into an offense that already has a go-to receiver in Juju Smith-Schuster who typically is at his best in the slot. James Washington has proven that he is a solid deep-threat and does a good job stretching the field. Diontae Johnson is a rising talent who may prove to be one of the better secondary options in the NFL. With this talented receiver group, Winston would have no issues finding targets.

Last season, Jameis lead the NFL in passing yards. While he did throw a NFL most 30 interceptions, he did most of this while being severely nearsighted. Pittsburgh would be a welcome change for Winston who, assuming Roethlisberger retires, would walk in as the starter. If he is successful the Steelers may have found their next franchise Quarterback. If not, he still will be better than Mason Rudolph. This really is a low-risk high-reward situation for Pittsburgh.

Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers
