Philip Lindsay

The Denver Broncos signing Melvin Gordon was a surprise to many. The Broncos already had an established back in Philip Lindsay. It is unlikely now that Lindsay resigns with Denver and serves as Gordon’s backup.

It is also unlikely the Broncos will want another back with a big contract in their backfield. So that only means Lindsay will likely hit the free-agent market. Once again, Lindsay will be looking to prove himself, which seems to be the theme of his career.

The Chicago Bears signing Philip Lindsay makes perfect sense. The Bears are likely to drop one of their quarterbacks with big contracts. That leaves room for them to sign Lindsay.

So far, David Montgomery has yet to prove he is worthy of being a feature back. The big-bodied Montgomery would serve as the perfect complement to the small framed Lindsay. Tarrick Cohen could then go back to doing what he does best and that is catching the football.

Lindsay brings more versatility to an offense that has really struggled the past few seasons. Lindsay is a very reliable and consistent running back, consistency is something this offense has struggled with for a long time.

The Bears’ defense is loaded with talent, enough talent that they will always be in the hunt for the playoffs. However, the offense needs to pick up some of the slack. Adding a star back could help elevate some of the pressure for whoever the Bears have lining up behind center.
