Todd Gurley

The Atlanta Falcons took a chance on Todd Gurley this season. The risk could come with high rewards. When he is healthy Todd Gurley is one of the NFL’s best running backs. However, it’s unlikely the Falcons and Gurley reach an agreement on a contract extension this season. Gurley may not rule out a return to Atlanta, but he will likely test his value in free agency.

The team that makes the most sense to me is the New England Patriots. The Patriots are at their best when they run the ball effectively. It is likely this offense will look a lot different than what we are used to seeing. Cam Newton brings added versatility to their offense.

Adding Gurley to a committee that already has Sony Michel and James White could make this offense very scary. This also makes sense for Gurley who has struggled with knee issues throughout his career. The committee approach may be a smart move for Gurley as he tries to extend his career.

The Patriots have a good amount of cap room this next offseason. If Gurley returns to form they’d be able to give him a contract worthy of his skill level. If he struggles, the Patriots have are the perfect team to rejuvenate his career. The Patriots have a very solid offensive line, one that could open running lanes for Gurley.

The committee of Gurley, Michel, and White may be the best trio in the NFL. The run game and strong defense would be good enough to carry the Patriots to the playoffs even if Cam Newton signs with another team after his one-year deal.

Prediction: New England Patriots
