JuJu Smith-Schuster
One of the most likable guys in the NFL, JuJu Smith-Schuster should have the interest of a lot of teams.
Smith-Schuster proved in 2018 that as a No. 2 option, he is dangerous, with 111 receptions and 1,426 yards. But when Antonio Brown left the Steelers, Smith-Schuster’s numbers dropped drastically to 42 receptions for 552 yards.
Similar to A.J. Green, this is a huge year for Smith-Schuster. With Pittsburgh’s cap situation, it doesn’t look like they have the ability to retain Smith-Schuster. If Smith-Schuster repeats his dismal season from last year, he’ll be in for a disappointing offseason. But if he can ramp it up again, he could in for a big paycheck.
Looking at a team that needs a No. 2 receiver, the San Francisco 49ers made a solid case. With just under $50 million in cap space projected for 2021, and the ability to clear more by clearing veteran contracts, the Bay area could be a great home for Smith-Schuster.
With Deebo Samuel emerging as a top option, first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk going into his rookie season and George Kittle as one of the best tight ends in the league, Smith-Schuster would slide in very nicely for the 49ers. There is a chance Smith-Schuster over-performs and the Niners can’t afford him, but he should at least be on their radar.
