Chicago Bears
The Bears are hoping that David Montgomery builds on his decent rookie season, when he rushed for 889 yards and six touchdowns. But he averaged only 3.7 yards a carry to rank only 41st in the NFL.
That relatively low average per carry seems to be a pattern for Chicago backs. Tarik Cohen gained just 3.3 yards per tote, but running isn’t his forte, at least not in this offense. After leading all NFC North running backs with 79 catches in 2019, Cohen will remain a valuable check-down option for either Trubisky or Foles.
Despite appearing in eight games last games last season, Ryan Nall had just two carries for eight yards. He could back up Montgomery, but undrafted rookie Artavis Pierce is someone to watch. Pierce started seven games last season for Oregon State, averaging 6.0 yards per rush. Napoleon Maxwell offers depth.
Chicago, which needs to improve its offensive line, has to replace right guard Kyle Long, who has retired. The Bears could fill that spot with returnee Rashaad Coward or former Seahawk Germain Ifedi.
