The Dallas Cowboys did a great job during the regular season, earning the No. 2 seed in the NFC and home-field advantage in at least the first two rounds. Alas, the home field didn’t end up meaning much.

The Green Bay Packers entered AT&T Stadium and destroyed the Cowboys, 48-32. Green Bay took an early lead and never looked back, leading 27-0 at one point in the first half and going ahead by as many as 32 points in the second.

It was a shocking outcome as many people expected this to be a high-scoring affair. But for the Cowboys to be on the losing side of it was not what many people thought was coming. The loss has stirred a lot of conversation about what could come for the franchise.

NFL News & Rumors: Bill Belichick, Mike McCarthty, Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys Updates

Many people believe this could be the end of Mike McCarthy’s tenure as head coach. McCarthy has found a ton of regular season success, going 42-25 in four seasons and winning double-digit games in consecutive seasons for the first time since their 90s dynasty.

However, his record in the postseason is only 1-3 as the Cowboys’ streak of not reaching the NFC Championship Game has continued. That is something that doesn’t sit well with Jerry Jones, as he could look to make a head coaching change.

One name to keep an eye on, in the opinion of Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, is Bill Belichick. He parted ways with the New England Patriots after 24 seasons as their head coach and is someone Jones could look to bring to Dallas.

“One rival executive told me this week that if the #Cowboys lost to the #Packers, he thought Jerry Jones would go after Bill Belichick to replace Mike McCarthy,” Schultz wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

NFL News & Rumors: Bill Belichick, Mike McCarthty, Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys Updates

The most successful playoff coach in NFL history joining the Cowboys would be ideal for Jones. If anyone could help get this team over the hump when it matters most, it is likely Belichick. During his tenure with the Patriots, he won six Super Bowls, nine AFC Championships and 17 AFC East titles.

It will be interesting to see how things unfold. Firing the most successful head coach the team has had in three decades would be a bold move. But, for the Cowboys, regular season success will only carry you so far. Jones wants a contender and he has yet to find a head coach capable of bringing his team to that level.
