Could Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins join the NFC North division rival Green Bay Packers this offseason? Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports thinks it’s a possibility.
Cousins, who is out for the remainder of 2023 due to the torn Achilles he suffered this past weekend, is slated to hit free agency this spring, and with him being 35 years old, there remains a possibility that the Vikings ultimately do not re-sign him. If that happens, he will instantly become one of the most coveted players on the open market, and Robinson names the Packers among the teams that could potentially be interested in the signal-caller.
Green Bay could certainly make sense as a destination if it decides that it does not want to move forward with Jordan Love under center.
Love is in his first season as the Packers’ full-time starting quarterback, and while he got off to a solid start over his first three games, he has looked rather subpar during Green Bay’s current four-game losing streak and has some wondering if the Packers will look elsewhere for a signal-caller this offseason.
Of course, Green Bay is not exactly a team that is ready to win now, so bringing in a quarterback who will be 36 at the start of next season with a major injury on his resume may not be the way to go. Plus, Cousins has not yet win a Super Bowl, so if he does leave Minnesota, he will probably want to go somewhere where he will have an opportunity to win a championship. As it stands, the Packers would almost certainly not provide that for him in 2024.
Robinson also names the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams as possible landing spots and even mentions the Miami Dolphins in the unfortunate event that Tua Tagovailoa suffers more concussions.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell has already said he hopes to have Kirk Cousins back next season, so this could all be moot, but the NFL is a business, and you never know what can happen between now and the spring.
