NFL Insider Gives Devastating Update On Chiefs’ Rashee Rice

It’s looking more and more like Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is not going to be available for the season opener, and potentially much longer than that.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has provided an update on the Chiefs’ embattled star, stating that Kansas City is bracing for a “multi-game suspension.”

Schefter notes that the NFL’s personal conduct policy states that certain discipline will be in place no matter what and that the facts are currently against Rice.

Rice is under investigation for his role in a six-car accident in Texas back in March. The 24-year-old was allegedly driving a Lamborghini and reached speeds of 119 mph before crashing his car along with five other vehicles. Rice then fled the scene.

On top of that, the wide out was recently named a suspect in an alleged assault at a Dallas night club.

Schefter adds the league is examining a “slew of incidents” that is likely to result in Rice facing a lengthy suspension.

Rice, who played his collegiate football at Southern Methodist, was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed a very impressive rookie campaign, playing in 16 games and hauling in 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. He then played a pivotal role in the Chiefs’ playoff journey, logging 26 catches for 262 yards and a score in Kansas City’s run to a second straight Super Bowl.

The wide receiver position was a major issue for the Chiefs last season even in victory, as Rice represented the club’s only consistent option.

Kansas City addressed the issue this offseason by signing Marquise Brown and drafting University of Texas standout Xavier Worthy, but if Rice is going to be unavailable for an extended period of time, it puts the Chiefs back at square one in terms of their aerial attack.

It should be noted that Brown is coming off of a couple of subpar seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, and while Worthy is talented and clearly has potential, he is entirely unproven.

This will once again put a lot of strain on quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who may be forced to improvise if Rice is out of the lineup for much of the season.

Of course, the Chiefs can always hope that Brown rediscovers his production from his Baltimore Ravens days, where he posted a 1,000-yard campaign in 2021.

Either way, this Rashee Rice news is obviously not ideal for Kansas City.
