The Chicago Bears face a pivotal decision regarding their future at the quarterback position, and Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner has offered a straightforward perspective that could guide their choice.

“Has he proven to me that he’s a franchise quarterback?” Warner posed this critical question on the Rich Eisen Show, emphasizing the importance of clarity in evaluating the team’s quarterback situation.

He went on to talk more about the situation.

“Unless you know without a shadow of a doubt that Justin Fields is that guy, I believe you have to go the other route. Because now it’s still speculation, and it’s still the fact that we’re going to have to pay him a big-dollar deal whether he’s proven that to us or not, and so, I feel there’s only one way to go in this if the answer to your question is ‘he hasn’t proven it yet.'”

Justin Fields, the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has shown flashes of the qualities expected of a franchise quarterback. However, concerns about consistency linger, casting a shadow over his potential to lead the Bears in the long term.

Fields’ development has been hindered by the instability within the coaching staff, with changes in head coaches and offensive coordinators over the past three seasons. While these factors provide context, they also raise doubts about his ability to thrive in Chicago’s system.

The Bears have explored the possibility of retaining Fields while also selecting a quarterback with the top pick in the draft. However, this strategy could create an uncertain environment for both Fields and his successor, potentially hindering their growth and development.

Speculation abounds regarding potential landing spots for Fields, with the Pittsburgh Steelers emerging as a rumored destination, particularly following the recent departure of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. In fact, the Steelers are considered the frontrunners in betting circles to acquire Fields via trade.

As the Bears weigh their options, they must carefully consider the trajectory of their franchise and the long-term implications of their quarterback decisions. The path they choose will shape the team’s fortunes for years to come.
