New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito has taken the football world by storm the last few weeks. Pressed into duty because of injuries to Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor, DeVito helped keep the team’s playoff hopes alive with a three-game winning streak.

Alas, that three-game streak came to an end in Week 15 when the Giants went on the road and were defeated by the New Orleans Saints. Saints defenders had a field day against New York’s offensive line, making sure the hand gesture DeVito has gone viral for using after most of their plays.

Following that game, another thing went viral involving DeVito. He was reportedly supposed to make an appearance at a pizzeria in New Jersey, but when the owner was informed the appearance fee for DeVito had doubled from $10K to $20K, they were no longer interested.

Despite whatever the mix-up may have been, DeVito stuck to his word. He made an appearance without pay, something that drew positive reactions throughout social media. A former NFL MVP offered advice for the Giants quarterback this week as well.

Boomer Esiason, who knows a thing or two about the New York media from playing with the New York Jets and now being a radio host, offered up some words of advice to DeVito. Esiason believes he needs to remain focused on the task at hand on the field during an episode of “Boomer and Gio” on WFAN.

“The young man is a very nice young man, and seems to have all of his priorities in the right place,” Esiason said about DeVito, as shared by Ryan Chichester of Audacy. “I would just again advise him, just play football, man. Stop with all this other crap off the field. You haven’t really done much. You have the opportunity of a lifetime. Don’t blow it. Don’t blow it because of idiot things like this off the field. Just focus in on being the best player you can be the next three weeks…”

DeVito made three public appearances on Tuesday, looking to avoid any fallback from the negative publicity about appearance fees. He also adjusted his off-field endeavors, hiring a marketing agent over his football agent, Sean Stellato, who has been going viral himself with DeVito becoming popular.

That is probably a good move for DeVito, as he now has people handling things for him off the field, separate from his football stuff. He learned a hard lesson early on with the pizzeria fiasco, but he did a good job of moving to amend it on his own as quickly as possible.

DeVito will presumably be the starter for the Giants for the remainder of the season. He is 3-2 through five starts with two games against the Philadelphia Eagles and one against the Los Angeles Rams to finish out the 2023 season.
