Sam Darnold
In his first two seasons with the New York Jets, Darnold has been extremely hot and cold under center. The former Trojan has combined for 5,889 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions in his first 26 starts.
Darnold has shown he can produce outings like the one he had versus the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6 of the 2019 season. While New York took down Dallas, Darnold was extremely efficient, throwing for 338 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. On the other hand, he also has discouraging performances like the one he had against the New England Patriots in Week 7. On a positive note, he completed 40.3 percent of his passes under pressure in 2019 (ninth-best in the NFL).
Throughout the offseason, the Jets have done a decent job of putting Darnold in a better position to succeed. Besides strengthening the offensive line, New York added Breshad Perriman and rookie Denzel Mims to the receiving corps. Meanwhile, Jamison Crowder and Le’Veon Bell are entering their second seasons with the Jets.
There’s an argument to be had that Darnold has the best supporting cast of his young career in 2020. If the offensive line can keep him upright and he stays healthy, Darnold could easily have the best year of his career this season. Although, the presence of Adam Gase makes it even tougher for Darnold to produce an MVP season.
