Lamar Jackson
Not much needs to be said on why Jackson could win the NFL’s MVP award in 2020. The reigning MVP was absolutely phenomenal for the Ravens in 2019, leading them to an impressive 14-2 record. Even though Baltimore was eliminated in the AFC Divisional Round, Jackson’s outlook moving forward has exponentially grown.
In his rookie season, critics chastised Jackson for his struggles as a passer. Therefore, Jackson spent the entire offseason leading up to the 2019 season working tirelessly to improve on his mechanics. As a result of his efforts, Jackson finished with 3,127 yards, a league-high 36 touchdown passes, and only six interceptions. He also completed 66.1 percent of his attempts after converting on just 58.2 percent of his passes in 2018.
Of course, when speaking about Jackson, he’s the most dangerous quarterback when he’s running outside of the pocket. The dual-threat quarterback galloped for 1,206 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in 2019. Besides being the sixth-leading rusher in the NFL — including running backs — Jackson became the first quarterback in league history to record 3,000+ passing yards and 1,000+ rushing yards in the same season.
The scary part for opposing defensive coordinators is that Jackson has even more room for growth as a passer and seeing his work ethic, he won’t stop until he’s unstoppable through the air. Even though Jackson’s rushing numbers could slightly decline with the arrival of rookie J.K. Dobbins, expect Jackson to have another MVP-esque season in 2020.
