This Insane Stat Shows How Good Panthers CB Jaycee Horn Was In Week 2

With the 8th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers selected South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn.

Looking to reshape their defensive backfield, as they also acquired C.J. Henderson and eventually Stephon Gilmore, the Panthers are hoping that Horn is their shutdown, No. 1 cornerback for years to come.

While his rookie season was cut short, as he played in only three games, Horn showcased his potential with one interception, one pass defended and five tackles. This season, he has been healthy and playing well for Carolina.

In Week 2 against the New York Giants, his prowess was on full display. The Giants don’t have the most prolific passing offense led by Daniel Jones, but it is still up to cornerbacks to do their job and lock down the secondary. That is exactly what Horn, the son of former wide receiver Joe Horn, did.

Against New York, Horn had 38 coverage snaps. He allowed only one catch that went for four yards and a passer rating of 42.4. PFF shared the numbers on their Twitter account.

Sterling Shepard, Rickie James and David Sills IV were the top targets on Sunday against Carolina and all three were held relatively in check. There were a few breakdowns that Jones was unable to take advantage of, but overall, it was a solid performance by the secondary.

A lot of credit can go to Horn and his teammates, as they made life tough for the Giants’ offense, as they scored only 19 points in the game. Alas, that was enough for Big Blue to get the victory, defeating the Panthers 19-16.

The defense is doing everything it can to keep the team in games, as it is the Carolina offense that is stuck in the mud and struggling to produce.

As long as Horn and his teammates keep playing up to this level, the Panthers will be in a position to win some games in the coming weeks.
