The Denver Broncos had some high expectations coming into the 2022 NFL season. They had Super Bowl aspirations after upgrading the quarterback position in a major way, acquiring Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks in an offseason trade.

Wilson was expected to elevate an offense that has all of the pieces to be among the best in the league, they just needed someone to bring it all together. Denver has an excellent running back duo with Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon.

At wide receiver, Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy are leading the way with K.J. Hamler working his way back to the field. Tim Patrick would have been another useful weapon, but he was injured in the offseason.

Through the first two games of the season, the offense has been underwhelming, to say the least. An emotional game in Week 1 was held as the Broncos went on the road to Seattle, coming up short in Wilson’s homecoming.

In week 2 the result was better as they got a victory over the Houston Texans. However, the offense still sputtered, winning 16-9. There are plenty of kinks to work out with a new coaching staff and starting quarterback in place, but there are some people that believe it is time for Wilson to step up.

One of those people is former NFL defensive end and linebacker Rob Ninkovich. Now an analyst with ESPN, he believes that the Broncos aren’t going anywhere without Wilson stepping up as a leader.

“If Russell can’t be the leader … this team isn’t going to go anywhere.”

Something has to change in Denver for things to get on track. Nathaniel Hackett has been called out as well, as there are people who believe that he is in over his head as a head coach after departing the Green Bay Packers this offseason, where he was the offensive coordinator.

Figuring things out near the goal line would go a long way to easing many people’s concerns. The Broncos have failed to score on numerous occasions from the one-yard line; had they been able to convert against the Seahawks, they would be sitting pretty at 2-0.

Instead, they are 1-1 and there are a ton of questions surrounding them. To quiet those doubters, Wilson has to take more control and get this team on track offensively.
