By now, you probably know of the “tush push,” the Philadelphia Eagles’ version of a quarterback sneak that results in an almost guaranteed first down for the club in short-yardage situations. As a matter of fact, Jalen Hurts has been so effective in utilizing this play call that some have questioned whether or not the NFL should ban it.
However, legendary signal-caller Tom Brady views it differently: it’s dangerous. On the Let’s Go podcast this week, Brady warned Hurts about the potential perils of running this play regularly.
“The only thing I worry about in that particular play is they all know what’s coming when you line up in formation, and that quarterback is going to take a lot of shots,” Brady said. “I don’t know how many times you want your quarterback taking shots.”

Hurts has avoided injury thus far, but you do have to wonder if the cumulative damage he has been taking on these quarterback sneaks with end up hurting him down the line.
“So you may have some short-term gain, you may have some long-term pain,” added Brady. “So they might have to come up with a tush toss or a tush push or some variation of the tush push to keep people honest because if they keep lining up and your teammate’s your quarterback, and even though Jalen is a pretty strong guy, you’re putting yourself in harm’s way.”
